Identification Title Contaminants in Sediments Abstract Descriptor 8 Concentrations of contaminants are at levels not giving rise to pollution effects SEDIMENTSThe monitoring of contaminants in marine sediments was performed according to the Directive 2008/56/EC, as required by Decisions 2010/477/EU and 2017/848/EU, and taking account also the relevant provisions of Directive 2000/60/EC for territorial and/or coastal waters so as to ensure an adequate coordination of the implementation of the two legal frameworks. The data set consists of data from specific monitoring carried out under the Marine Strategy Directive (MSFD) during years 2015-2017 by Regional Environmental Agencies (ARPA) and the National Research Council and monitoring of water bodies (marine-coastal areas) carried out during the years 2012-2015 under the Water Framework Directive (WFD) by ARPA (EIONET).Among the substances or groups of substances included in the list of priority substances listed in Annex X of Directive 2000/60/EC and further regulated in Directive 2013/39/EC, have been monitored those that tend to accumulate in sediments, due to their chemical-physical characteristics, and which are provided for by national legislation (Legislative Decree 172/2015). Before entering data into the database, the goodness of the data was considered through the evaluation of the quality parameters reported, according to the specifications of Directive 90/2009 and of Legislative Decree 219/2010.
