Identification Title Chlorophyll concentration by satellite observations Abstract Chlorophyll concentration in the water column (Indicator 5.2.1) which responds to fluctuations in nutrients level (Criterion 5.1) could be estimated by satellite sensors for ocean colour by measuring light coming from the sea and subsequently retrieving the chlorophyll concentrations with ocean colour algorithms. Starting from remote sensing reflectance spectrum, resulted by merging of SeaWiFS, MODIS-Aqua, MERIS and VIIRS sensors, surface chlorophyll concentration is computed via regional algorithms by the Group for Satellite Oceanography (GOS-ISAC) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR, Rome). Estimated surface chlorophyll a concentration (mg m-3; 1 km spatial resolution) are provided by Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS). The product downloaded is: OCEANCOLOUR_MED_CHL_L4_REP_OBSERVATIONS_009_078. From this it has been computed the monthly mean chlorophyll concentration for a period of six years (2012-2017).
